Victor Strange (Doctor Strange has a brother)
If you were paying attention during Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, you might have caught a mention of Doctor Strange’s sister, did you know he also had a brother named Victor?
The stories of Doctor Strange’s family are tragic.
Doctor Strange’s sister died in an accident on a frozen lake when he was a boy. Strange was unable to save his sister and it becomes a reason why he studies medicine; to try and save the lives he couldn’t when he was a boy.
Lives being the important word. Not only did Strange lose his sister he almost lost his brother, Victor.
When Strange was unable to visit his parent’s deathbed, his outraged brother visits him. It’s not a pleasant conversation and Victor leaves (somewhat annoyed at Doctor Strange), Victor is hit by a car.
At this point, Strange is not the Sorcerer Supreme, but he is a doctor. Unable to save his brother, he places his brother in cryogenic hibernation hoping for revive him in the future.
When he does become acquainted with magic, Strange does revive his brother. But there is a problem. Using magic to revive his brother has consequences. Doctor Strange uses a number of studied and cannot find a way of reviving his brother until he ends up using a Vampiric Verse.
You really think Doctor Strange might have been given a head-ups by the name of the verse. It’s a Vampiric Verse and, you’ve guessed it, Victor is revived but turned into a vampire.
Doctor Strange was still new to the whole magic thing, so Victor doesn’t wake up immediately. In fact, ten years pass and it takes Marie Laveau, the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans to fully awaken Victor.
Marie Laveau wants Victor’s vampire blood to continue to prolong her life. She has been alive for 200 years and wants to stick around a little longer.
At first Victor is confused, but drawn to Marie Laveau. When he realises what she wants and what he is, Victor manages to escape and finds his way to New York, but Marie Laveau is in pursuit. She catches up with him and hits him with an Arrow of Eros which magically enchants him, leaving him unable to resist Marie Laveau.
Doctor Strange, along with a few allies, battles Marie Laveau and Victor. When Victor is freed from Marie Laveau’s spell, he attempts to use his powers for good, like Doctor Strange.
Victor succeeds for a while, but when a innocent man is nearly killed because of his actions, Victor considers himself too dangerous and throws himself onto a stake.
Unfortunately for Victor, the magical nature of his resurrection means that he becomes trapped in the mirror dimension. This time, Doctor Strange is completely unaware of his presence. Even though, Victor inhabits a mirror in the Sanctum Sanctorum.
Victor has been able to escape his prison in the Crypt of Shadows just in time for the Blood Hunt Marvel crossover. Will Victor make a reappearance during the crossover? It’s possible.
He has promised only to reveal himself to Doctor Strange when he chooses and identifies himself as a villain. Whatever happens, it looks like Doctor Strange in going to have a little family trouble.
