Coming Soon—Batman: Dark Age
A six issue miniseries from the writer and artist of Superman: Space Age, Batman: Dark Age promises a new look at the well-known origin of Batman.
Written by Mark Russel, illustrated by Mike Allred.
Everyone knows Batman’s origin story. The tragic lost of his parents to a criminal on the streets of Gotham. The story has been told countless times in countless ways.
Backed by Mark Russel and Mike Allred’s previous Eisner-nominated work on Superman, this retelling of Batman’s origin promises to provide insight and analysis.
The story will place Batman against historical events to provide a context for the character and the forces that create and shape him in his quest for justice.
Superman: Space Age moved Clark Kent from the 1960s through the 1980s. The historical events of the assassination of JFK, the space race (hence the titles) and the Cold War, provided Superman with formative events that challenged his hope and shaped his actions.
In addition, the mysterious figure, Pariah gave a supervillain twist to the story to blend the historical events with comic book action.
What can we expect from Batman: Dark Age?
It’s unlikely that is the comic will be set in the Dark Ages (often known as the middle ages with knights and castles). But we can expect some historical events to impact the life of Bruce Wayne as he finds himself becoming Batman.

The preview pages show a young Bruce with his mother suggesting we will see some of batman’s origin story and a possible retelling of the murder of Bruce’s parents. In many stories, Joe Chill is the petty thief who kills Batman’s parents. Anyone could be responsible in this story, possibly even a historical figure.
The preview promises “iconic characters who’ve loved and hated Batman over the years like you’ve never seen them before”. In addition to a little history, we can also expect some Batman action to keep us interested. And as an out-of-continuity story, who knows who is going to turn up (The Joker is strong bet) or what’s going to happen to them.
The six issue run of Batman: Dark Age with 40 story pages in each issue will produce a considerable story. The first issue will arrive March 26th, 2024.
